The Chinese government
gives the highest priority to water treatment where the investment
will be US $ 36,2 billion for the next five years. The wastewater
treatment capacity shall increase to 40 tons/day. Gas treatment
is also given high priority because the big problems with air
pollution. The projects are desulfuration in coal-fired power
plants, air pollution in the cities and industrial air pollution.
The investment in this area will be US $ 30,2 billion. The third
important environmental sector is solid waste treatment. This means
treatment of hazardous waste, industrial solid waste and urban
waste. US $ 10,9 billion will be invested in this sector. Other
sectors are ecology protection and infrastructure. US $ 6 billion
will be invested in ecological protection zones, oceanic protection
zones, etc. US $ 1,2 billion are going to be invested in
information, law enforcement, scientific research, environmental
monitoring and so on.
Investment source The
polluting enterprises shall invest US $ 40.5 billion in water
protection, air protection and waste treatment. The government,
non-governmental and foreign funds will pay construction of
municipal environmental protection infrastructure. The amount is US
$ 36.8 billion. The State government and the local governments will
pay ecology protection and construction of environmental protection
management infrastructure.
Key projects Several
projects are centred around activities like “Three Rivers” and
“Three Lakes”. More than 120 wastewater treatment plants are planned
in these areas. Other clean-up activities are “Two Acid Rain
Zones”, “One Municipality” (Beijing) and “One See” (Bohai).
